Victim Services of Peterborough & Northumberland (VSPN) is a confidential community-based service that provides immediate emotional and practical support to victims of crime and tragedy.

VSPN is a non-profit, charitable, community-based organization comprised of specially trained staff and volunteers available free of charge to Peterborough and Northumberland counties.  Working alongside emergency service partners, VSPN provides immediate crisis response, intervention and prevention services which are responsive to the needs of individuals, families and communities affected by crime and sudden tragedies.

VSPN provide free and confidential supportive services aimed at early intervention, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

OUR VISION

It is the vision of Victim Services of Peterborough and Northumberland that all persons who have been victimized by crime or tragedy receive immediate, skilled, effective, and supportive response with an emphasis on compassion for personal dignity and privacy in a healthy and safe environment.

OUR MISSION

Victim Services of Peterborough and Northumberland is a non-profit, charitable, community-based organization working cooperatively with police, emergency services and the community to establish a healthy and safe environment for victims of crime and tragedy by providing emotional support, practical assistance and referrals to community resources for continued support.

VICTIM SERVICES PETERBOROUGH NORTHUMBERLAND (VSPN) OBJECTIVES

  • To lessen the trauma of victimization
  • To help the victim cope with the impact of crime and tragedy
  • To encourage victims to connect with appropriate services
  • To provide advocacy and avoid secondary victimization
  • To recognize and support primary, secondary and tertiary victims

WHO IS A VICTIM?

A victim is any person whose life has been affected by a criminal act or traumatic circumstance, regardless of severity. Victims are those whose personal rights have been violated by criminal, violent or aggressive act(s). Victims are also the family and friends of those who have been injured, killed or traumatized as a result of crime, and/or tragedy.

Victim Services Peterborough Northumberland is available for victims of any crime or tragic circumstance, including but not limited to:
