General Information

What is Victim Services Peterborough Northumberland (VSPN)?

VSPN is a confidential, community-based organization that offers immediate emotional and practical support to individuals affected by crime or tragic circumstances. Our services are available free of charge to residents of Peterborough and Northumberland counties.

Our services are available to anyone impacted by crime or tragedy, including but not limited to victims of assault, domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, homicide, sudden death, and motor vehicle collisions. Family members and friends of victims are also eligible for support.

No. All services provided by VSPN are free and confidential.

Our Services Offered

What types of support does VSPN provide?

VSPN offers a range of services, including:​

  • Immediate crisis intervention
  • Emotional support
  • Safety planning
  • Practical assistance
  • Referrals to community resources
  • Advocacy to prevent secondary victimization
  • Assistance with applications to the Victim
  • Quick Response Program+ (VQRP+) ​

VQRP+ provides immediate financial assistance to eligible victims of violent crime. This may include support for:​

  • Emergency expenses (e.g., home safety, accommodation, meals)
  • Counseling services
  • Funeral expenses
  • Crime scene cleanup
  • Transportation
  • Emergency cell phones ​

Yes. VSPN assists individuals in developing personalized safety plans to enhance their security at home, work, and in the community.

VSPN provides donated cell phones to clients who may not qualify for a phone under VQRP+. These phones serve as an additional safety measure, allowing clients to access 911 in emergencies. Any additional costs are the responsibility of the client. ​

Cell phones are subject to availability.

Accessing Services

How can I contact VSPN?

We’re on-call to respond to requests for victim assistance from police and emergency services. Please refer to the Contact us page to connect with us during regular business hours.

No referral is necessary. Individuals can self-refer by contacting us directly. ​

We have offices in Peterborough and Cobourg:​

Peterborough Office: 453 Lansdowne St. E., Peterborough, ON K9L 0A4

Cobourg Office: 1165 Division St., Cobourg, ON K9A 4J9 ​

Our administrative offices are open Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Confidentiality and Eligibility

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. VSPN is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of all clients. Information is only shared with your consent, except in situations where disclosure is required by law. ​

VSPN can arrange interpretation services as needed.

Yes. You do not need to have reported the incident to law enforcement to receive support from VSPN.
