Victim Quick Response Program (VQRP)

VQRP offers immediate assistance to provide limited financial support to victims in the aftermath of violent crimes including:

  • domestic violence
  • sexual assault
  • human trafficking
  • serious physical assault
  • hate crimes
  • homicide

 

IMMEDIATE EMERGENCY EXPENSES:

Available within 45 days of reporting with combined expenses of up to $1000.

Costs incurred to ensure a victim’s home is secured immediately after a crime.  For example installing plywood sheets over broken windows, replacing or repairing broken windows, locks, doors, primary telephone or cell phone if existing one is broken, repairing telephone lines if lines were cut, and reconnecting electricity or gas lines if cut.

Transportation costs for a family member to identify a victim of homicide, or to support a victim who has suffered serious injury.

Child care/care for elderly or special-needs dependents to allow a family member to identify a victim of homicide or support a victim who has suffered serious injury.

Accommodation and meals where the victim or an immediate family member must travel out of town or leave home.

 

SHORT TERM COUNSELLING:

Available within 90 days of reporting. Victims may be eligible for transportation expenses to attend counselling when he/she lives in a rural/remote area.

 

FUNERAL EXPENSES

Available within 45 days of reporting for victims of homicide (up to $5000)

 

CRIME SCENE CLEANUP

Available within 45 days of reporting where a specialized company is needed (up to $1,500)

WHO MAY APPLY FOR VQRP?

A victim who is suffering from emotional and/or physical harm as a result of a crime is eligible to apply for these services if he or she:

  • has report a violent criminal code offence that occurred in Ontario to a Police Services in the Province of Ontario, or;
  • in cases of domestic violence or sexual assault to a hospital or community agency that provides support to these victims in the Province of Ontario.
  • is a resident of Ontario
  • is not charged in the offence
  • has no other financial resources available to meet their needs

Who Else Can Apply?

  • an immediate family member applying on behalf of a victim
  • the custodial guardian of a victim who is a minor child
  • an individual with legal authority to act on behalf of a victim who has special needs

Please contact Victim Services of Peterborough and Northumberland in order to determine eligibility. Workers will meet with victims, assist with the application process and ensure that victims have the proper community supports. The program is designed to fill the gap between when a crime occurs and when the victim receives longer-term support services.

-Please note that VSPN will submit the application to the Ministry of the Attorney General, which is responsible for the administration of the program.
